Drone liability in case of crash while shooting wedding?

If you are using a drone for a wedding.  And let's say it crashes for what ever reasons and accidentally clips someone.  Could you be sued for this?

This is where you need to make sure you have the best coverage you can get.  Make sure you triple check with your insurance company.  Most won't cover this with out a change to your policy.

My neighbor who is a wedding photographer just bought one and we were literally just talking about this on Thursday.  He bought it, then had a oh crap moment when trying to figure out how to protect his company in the event an accident happened with his drone.

Can we say my assets will be attached for the rest of my life if I use a drone, and it crashes on people? I would not even want to think of what any form of liability insurance would cost you to use one. It would have to be a multi-million dollar one, and I am talking tens of millions minimum.

100% you better hope you have good coverage.  Otherwise your keeping yourself exposed.

I own a drone so I've looked into these type of things already.

Things may have changed since I looked last time, but you cannot use a drone for commercial use unless you have a commercial license.  (last time I checked, it was a A LOT).


So if somebody was using a drone for commercial use at a wedding without a commercial license they're probably being prosecuted and fined heavily.
When the last candle has been blown out
and the last glass of champagne has been drunk
All that you are left with are the memories and the images-David Cooke.

It's no joke.  Make sure you have the proper coverage, and knowledge on how to fly your craft.  Because at the end of the day, if something happens.  It's your butt that is on the slinger.

I picked up a DJI Phantom and first day crashed it into the garage door before it ended up going through the kitchen window! 

At the end, I paid for this.  My liability.

It sounds like you didn't set it up right.  These things are so hard to crash, you literally have to do it on purpose.

Your at the end of the plank.  You crash, you are behind the stick.  Simple as that.  Make sure you get up to speed on laws and safety rules.

I'm more familiar with sports and events, and from what I last read it's illegal to fly a drone over a stadium during a game/concert and for a certain amount of time before or after the game/event.

I don't know if there are regulations about flying one over a smaller outdoor event. Seems like the concern is not just if someone loses control of one and it crashes and damages property but if it would hit and injure someone at an event.

This is some of the latest info. I've seen. For business use it mentions Section 333.
