15 stop filter usage vs 10 stop filter

7 years 5 months ago #506499 by Richard K Photography
I saw another thread here about 10 stop filters and it reminded me of this question.  I have a 10 stop filter that works just great.  I've been looking at one of those 15 stop filters:  www.singh-ray.com/shop/mor-slo-5-10-and-...ral-density-filters/  and wondering any caveats to using this filter?

That is one serious filter.  Honestly, I didn't know they made ND filters that high.

Could you get a 30 second shot in daylight with that 15 stop filter?

That would make some very interesting shots with clouds and water.  I wonder what sort of color cast you would get with a 15 stop filter?

ALL ND filters create a color cast. its easy to fix in post, usually a quick WB adjustment....

Have any of you tried a Hitech ND filter?  How do they compare to Lee?

I thought Hitech was a grade below Lee Filters?

I have a B+W 10 stop filter, however I don't use mine often.  I used it 2 times.  Once for making all the tourist to disappear around a church I was photographing, and the other I was making a river look all milky.  Plenty of stops for me, but again, I've only used mine twice.

I use Lee and HiTech, the Lee filters  "look and feel" better but you wouldn't be able to find any difference pixel peeping.

Now Lee hand dips their filters right?  Does Hitech?

15 stops is crazy, and they have 20 stop filters too!
