Help needed

Hey guys! I need some help. I am using Dell XPS 15 with windows 10, and i shoot in RAW on Canon 80d. To view photos i use Microsoft viewer and to edit Lightroom. Right now i am facing a problem i cant find solution to. When i view vertically taken pictures via viewer it automatically flips them horizontally, even though preview in the folder is vertical. This problem came out when i opened a picture and somehow Photoshop was selected as "open with" program. Trying to rotate inside viewer gives me an error, says cant rotate RAW files. Its really getting on my nerv lol Tried contacting MS directly, no luck.

Unfortunately, the (idiotic) MS viewer will actually rotate the image in the file, instead of simply providing a different view on-screen.

So, no, it can't rotate a RAW file.

But this is a codec problem, either owned by Canon or MS, and you'll have to chase one of them.

Why use a viewer when Library mode in LR and its grid/etc are faster than the MS viewer? and allows you to pick images ('x') and delete them all at once?

I mean, that's my workflow, but I find it pretty easy to deal with.

PhotoMechanic (Mechanix?) is recommended for culling, too.

I am not sure why you are getting this type of error. It also sounds like a file format problem to me too. Each camera manufacturer has a different flavor of RAW format so maybe it is Canons raw codec that needs updating. I would try viewing the files in Adobe Bridge first to see if you still get this error. I usually preview all my files in Bridge then I open the files from there to Photoshop. I stay away from MS viewer.

Good luck
