8K video on YouTube worthless at this time?

I was watching this 8K 60fps video that's making it's way around right now on YouTube and trying to put my head around why bother uploading 8k when most monitors, let along YouTube will compress it to 4k right?

So is there any benefit to uploading in 8k then?

Pretty video. Wonderful detail on my 4K monitor.

What I don't understand is why YT is calling 4320@60 fps "8K". Because it's not, AFAIK. My understanding is that (first off) 4K is 2 * HD, or 3860, and 8K is twice that, or 7680. Not sure what 4320 is, so I'll have to go research that. I'm all for 60 fps.

Perhaps definitions are changing?

I have  no clue on the 8K question, but will agree, that video is AMAZING!!  Insane detail.  I was in Best Buy and saw 8k TV, they had football game on it.  Honestly it didn't look all that great.  We barely have 4k video signals let along anywhere near 8k for normal viewing TV.

I would agree. I mean 8K Is the future, no doubt. But currently, there is hardly any hardware around that supports full 8K resolution.

It's called future proofing.

I would guess we are 2-3 years before 8K will be mainstream.
