Who runs the forums?

13 years 3 months ago #33040 by Dsoul
You ever think who are the people who create a forum and do they know anything about the topic they created?

Such as all these photography forums. The person/people who created the forums, are they photographers? pros? a geek behind the computer that just snaps pictures but loves building sites?

Cooking/recipe forums.. Are they cooks? or just someone who wants to share/talk about recipes.

Auto forums, computer forums etc...

Do the owners talk on the forums or just build it and let people/us run it?

I would say 9 times out of 10 the person who started a forum has an interested in the field. In general, it would help to have an interest in anything to start somewhere. It wouldn't be easy to make a Auto forum, if one didn't have a clue about vehicles.

Of course, one can have an idea and hire someone to build that idea. So that would help in not knowing anything about the field of topic forum.

I am sure those who create the forums, talk on them every once in awhile. Why don't you do some research and find out who the owners are to forums you chat on (inlcuding this one) and contact the owners to find out who they are. :)

Heck, for all you know...I am the owner to this forum. :welcomeclan

I would guess that Alex (the forum Grand Poobah in spite of what Crystal says) will chime in on this topic when he sees it.

I have spoken by telephone to Alex and he is an avid fairly new (3 years I believe) photogrpaher. But more importantly he has the valuable experience of having run huge forum sites. Think Corvettes.

Alex has a very cool vision for Photography Talk, which I believe he will achieve.

Can't speak for all message forum type sites but that's what I know about this one.

First off... thank you for the kind remarks... and you are correct. I'm going onto 3 years and find myself hooked on photography. I have been building successful online companies for a very long time, but frankly what makes any site successful is not only determined by the owner/"conductor", it's all the engineers, writers, marketing people who are contracted by my company. Even more important and the biggest attribute to the success of a site like this... is the quality of people who visit the site on a regular basis. So thank you all!

Much respect,

Alex

He knows the market very well, and has good resources and people helping him.

I would guess that most sites, like this one, are created and maintained by people who have a keen interest in the forum subject. I, for one, wouldn't want to spend my time and energy running, say, a child-care website. I'm single, not interested in even a LTR let alone kids at this point in my life. In order to make a success of something, it generally helps if you are truly interested in the endeavor, which is a hard thing to fake.
