Time lapse photography?

I was wondering if I could get some tips or suggestions on a time lapse photography idea. I would like to shoot my garden for a full year to show the change of seasons. I was hoping someone might be able to explain the fundamentals of how time lapse photography works. How often should I take the photos, how can I insure that I'm getting the exact same position with out having to leave my tripod in the garden for a full year? Some time ago I found a very cool You Tube video that showed the time lapse of a seed being planted to growing to a full flower and blooming then the plant going through winter. It was just a wonderful video. I wish I could find it!

Thanks for help.

Don't know much about it, but did find a few video's that I thought were very interesting.

I've never seen that before. If those are all photos, makes you wonder how many photos it took to make!

That was so cool. I bet there has to be 1000's of photos used to make each one of those videos?

I taped off a spot on the floor where my tripod legs go, and have started the process! 3 days done and 4 photos per day. Going to try to capture the fall and winter process from the view off one of my windows in my house over looking the garden. I will post up the video some time in winter.
