Have you or do you take pinhole photographs? Do you use a pinhole camera or your digital camera with a modified lens cap? I have utulized a pinhole camera but want to try the modified lens cap for my digital camera.

I really enjoy building crazy, pinhole cameras for film or paper, but I'm not as excited about actually using them. I take some test shots, but it's the camera itself that's the project for me.

I do have a DIY pinhole body cap. I find digital pinhole photography more fun. When I'm in the mood for pinhole photography I'm just wanting fun and convenience, and digital suits me better. I crank up the ISO and do it hand held. :)

The only problem I've found is that it's hard to get wide angle with DSLRs. Recently I did see a company that was offering pinhole body caps that extended into the body to get a wider angle.

Thanks for the link Henry ... I see that it is for 4/3 camera's. I shoot with Canon, and have been thinking that I can drill out a lens cap. I did see awhile back on a website, can't remember which one, that gave the hole spec's for various lens.

I didn't even catch that. I sort of wondered how close it got to the mirror. :)

I just drilled a 1/4" hole, and taped a pinhole I scavenged from a cardboard Besseler pinhole camera I bought long ago over it. My friend makes his own pinholes out of Coke cans using a needle and a little sandpaper. You can buy specific size, laser cut pinholes from a variety of sources.

I tried it this spring on Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, they have some resources on their site. I used a Pinhole Blender which advances film, that was fun to try it out. This book incl. digital info. www.focalpress.com/uploadedFiles/Books/B...phychaptersample.pdf .

I have a couple of pinhole body caps by Finney Field cameras but I don't think they're in business anymore, or at least not making these caps I thought too that I saw something similar for digital cameras.

I got a book from Alternative Photography that has some info. on making a shim, a chart that tells what needle size is needed for various pinhole sizes (and how to determine pinhole size related to focal length and f stop) - From Pinhole to Print www.alternativephotography.com .

Good thread Johnnie, and thanks Henry, I've found Alternative Photography interesting. Johnnie I thought I ran across something about pinhole body caps for digital cameras but can't remember what it was, if I find it will post it.

I tried it today after reading this post, and it was fun and easy, but I think I'll stick to my regular lenses for now.

:) it was fun to show the kids though!
