Lightweight Backcountry Camera that Performs: Nikon 1 V2

As we gear up for winter and those amazing shots you can get when the sun hits the snow just right, you have to consider what is practical. If you are hitting the slopes carrying with you five lenses and a huge camera body is just not practical. The more you can limit your carry weight the more options you have and that is where the version 2 Nikon 1 comes in.

Nikon has found a way to slim down the body so you have a camera that is almost as easy to carry as a point and shoot but gives you all the options of a real camera body, because that’s what it is. The camera itself is about $800 and you can purchase it with lenses, including a two lens zoom package that handles almost anything you need on the run. Of course, you can use any of the lenses you already own fitting the Nikon 1 mount.

This camera is a marriage between the true professional grade camera and the ones aimed at the hobbyist but it accomplishes something between. For the active photographer you have the pro enhancements you need to truly manipulate your images and get the shot you are looking for. The image examples on the website show the portrait capabilities as well as all your macro features. They don’t show the action shots they should, just the water shot every camera likes to feature, but the speed of the shutter and the controls give you the ability to shoot even fast moving snowboarders. You can shoot up to 60 frames per second and as slow as five if you are using the continuous shooting feature and all of these at full resolution. Your fastest manual shutter speed maxes out at 1/4000 of a second.

I'm not sure I'm liking that bulky flash on the top :S

Don't look at me, I didn't do it :)
