In the past few weeks, I've been following this story about Indian photographer Souvid Datta and frankly I find the whole situation to be so despicable. Has anyone else heard about this story/have any thoughts on this article?
Hadn't seen anything about this before, but it sounds like he wrecked his reputation as an up and coming photojournalist. Seems like he violated the ethics for that field of work. If for a feature a journalist does a photo illustration it should be indicated as such. But to 'lift' a person out of a photograph taken by a famous photographer and edit that into his own photo takes it into being plagiarism. Seems like he blew it with opportunities he had or could have had.
I don't know how a person can have the gall to even attempt to get away with this sort of thing (although, I guess he did get away with this for a while). I'm all for experimentation and appropriation in photography, but trying to pass this off as photojournalism is so unethical
