Water Polo Photography

Looks like I might have a nice opportunity to do some photography for both a high school team and private water polo club soon. My wife works for a tutoring company and one of her students is a water polo player, and he mentioned to her that they have absolutely no photography at their games (or is it "matches" in water polo?). She handed out some business cards for me, which may lead to some extra work.

My question: I've shot some baseball and basketball games, and I know (at least in theory) how to capture and freeze sports action. But does anyone know of any special challenges or techniques that are specific to watersports? (Other than the players being submerged in water of course...)

I don't have an answer to your question, but congrats on the upcoming shooting. Word of mouth goes a long way. Did you thank you wife?

Definitely thanked her...and she doesn't know it yet, but if this does pan out then the money from the first print package or portrait session that comes from it will be hers for a little shopping spree :)

Beyond the usual "coverage" shots, I think using a fast tele with high shutter speed might provide some dramatic close-ups of the fast and furious confrontations that are part of the game. I would also move around a lot for interesting framing possibilities using the goal and the back boundary lines. Post some!
