Quicktime Vulnerabilities

Since it has been reported that Quicktime will no longer be supported by Apple, at least for the windows version, have any of you heard of a replacement?  I don't shoot video but occasionally might shoot a short clip and know that at least in LR, if it sees a video it will prompt you to install it.
I work network security and had to remove quicktime from thousands of machines due to vulnerabilities that wont be patched.
Here's a link to one of the alerts.

Thanks for the info Windsr,
Honestly I'm not surprised at this, it seems they are slowly pulling away from Windows. Have you tried one of those generic codec packs to see if that stops LR from prompting to install? I recall there being a "Quicktime Alternative" at one point in time.

Thank you for making PhotographyTalk.com your photography community of choice.

Yes I've been using VLC, and other codec packs through the years but haven't seen anything from Adobe making mention of this. I'm also curious about what Apple are doing about notifying Windows users about this.
