Feel good drivel...

Followed a couple of links on here and, after reading articles like: 23 things you must know to be successful in photography , and a few others, I have to ask, who writes this self involved, feel good drivel?

In the article above, for instance, it is stated that every photographer should know who Ansel Adams and some other person I've never heard of, is...

What a load of rubbish...

In the article (if you could call it that): 30 Methods To Turn Your Camera Into a Cash Machine , the 'writer' has simply listed a whole lot of situations where photos are used and claims approaching people in these situations will make you money...
The writer lists, amongst others, 'photojournalism' and 'publications' as two areas where you can "turn your camera into a cash machine"...

Good luck with that!

As someone who spent years shooting motorsport and automotive features (and wrote all the copy too) in a freelance capacity and worked for a local paper as a photojournalist, I can say that, unless you already know the editor of one of these publications very well, or are a well known photographer in the industry already, it is unlikely these people would even return your phone calls, much less start forking over oodles of cash for some random photos you decided to submit!

Seriously, if you are purporting to be offering advice to inexperienced budding photographers, at least have some idea of what you are talking about before dishing out this advice...

To play devil's advocate, it can certainly be helpful to study other photographers when learning the ropes. But it certainly isn't a necessity to being a successful photography. Maybe the writer should just be a bit more thoughtful with their words.
