Construction is a lot of fun.  When I was younger I had built a number of homes over the years.  Some of the best times!

Construction delivers a lot of solid gratification.  Especially building something from the ground up ... where there was nothing ... now is a building that will last a year or two. ;)

Another tough week ... all the windows are taped up and most of the prepping is completed and some priming has started. So far, Gary has hit all his exercise numbers this week.  There was another 20,000 step day this week.  Poor Maggie, she’s been kept out of her backyard all week. We have a busy weekend also, tonight Mary Lou and Gary has Lackawanna Blues at the Mark Taper Forum.  Tomorrow Mary Lou and Gary have Twist, Pull, Throw, Run Like a MotherF***** at the Maverick Theater.  And finally Sunday, Mary Lou has Fiddler on the Roof at the Pantages.

Meanwhile, Gary has managed to plant a few tomatoes and peppers.  Sadly, Gary has had to remove a ton of grape vines which surrounded the house and patio.  Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Thompson were all severely reduced/chopped up or removed completely.  :(

Tomatoes are great fresh, what kind of tomatoes did you plant?

Usually Gary plants anywhere from 15 to 20 different varieties, mostly heirlooms.

A few from last year:

The Mark Taper Forum is a small, round theatre in LA’s Music Center complex. We are subscribers and we arrive early for each performance, which allows time to wine & dine by the Forum’s moat.

BTW- Lackawanna Blues, was simply superb. A one man show with a guitarist was minimal in production value but 100%+ in story telling. Ruben Santiago-Hudson was amazing in his portrayal of every role from Nana to Bill (about 20 different roles). If the show makes it way to a theatre near you ... a must see ... a definite threat.

Gary is pretty beat up. This house painting stuff is taxing. Mary Lou, Maggie and Gary pretty much live outside. We cook, eat, relax, entertain, et al, outside. Now the house exterior is all plasticed up. All the patio furniture is in the yard with stuff stacked on top. Consequently, we’re stuck inside. But life goes on ... tonight Gary cooked up a corn beef with sautéed cabbage all washed down with a Thornton Chardonnay.  Delish.

Maggie wanted to play with this beautiful horse on our morning walk. Maggie thinks that horses are just big dogs.

How big is that thing?

This Monarch caterpillar was a young one ... only about an inch and a half (1.5" = 4cm).  The caterpillars can get to about 3" long and as thick as your little finger.  Monarch caterpillars only eat Milkweed plants.  We have planted Milkweed in the front and back yards, consequently, we have Monarch butterflies and caterpillars all year-round.

Not the best images:

1)

Monarch setting up to start its chrysalis and metamorphosis.

2)

Monarch splitting/shedding its out skin exposing the chrysalis.

3)

3) During this time the Monarch undulates and rotates its body/chrysalis rather violently as it sheds the old skin.

3)

The very beginning of metamorphosis.

Gary has used cone drip stuff.  The Press is better. The thing about brewing coffee and tea is to let the coffee/tea become completely immersed and surrounded by the water.  That produces max flavor.  Let's see a pix of your new French Press in action.

Last night Mary Lou and Gary hit the Segrestrom Center in Orange County for the Havana Cuba All Stars. They’re a jazz  group complete with dancers.  They were quite good and very entertaining. But, we felt they could have delivered more ... this didn’t seem to be their best night.  And they talked too much. All that being said, Gary would be happy to see them again.

Man, these Dodgers are kicking butt.  Gary has never seen a club with so much offense.  Plus The Natural is showing on TMC ... Robert Redford just struck out The Babe.
