Mary Lou and Gary live in the backyard.  It is quite relaxing and the backyard is a provider. Gary loves his herbs.  The herbs are spread out across the backyard, thymes, oregano, cilantro, parsley, marjoram, rosemary, savory, mints all kinds of stuff grow.  Mary Lou picks a fresh salad everyday and compliments the greens (lettuce, kale, spinach) with some backyard fruits, apple, oranges, pomegranate, persimmon, avocados, grapes, whatever is in season. Presently we have bumper crop of citrus. Gary has so much herbs that he uses them by the handful.

Those are some big oranges!  How many months out of the year do you have fruit that is ready for the eating?

aaaaahhh ... 12.

Seriously, Gary eats fruit off the trees all year long.  Citrus thins out in summer and fall but there is fruit all year long (the Mandarin only produces fruit during winter/spring), the avocado tree has two crops a year, the apple is twice a year, the persimmon and pomegranate once a year, both in fall.  (Gary has Valencia, Naval and Mandarin oranges.  The lemons are Meyer and the limes, Mexican.)  Gary's tomatoes thin out in winter, but there's always a few even in winter, the peppers are always fruiting, the greens are self seeding and are growing everywhere. There is lettuce that volunteered to grow in the front yard with the succulents and even out of the sidewalk joints.  (Gary/Mary Lou only pick off a few leaves from many lettuces/kale/arugula/spinach which allows them to mature and seed.)

Gary lives outside.  Gary has setup a little BBQ patio area which has a prep table, Komado (the egg), an electric smoker and a propane grill.  He also has a couple inductive plates for skillets and pots and some speakers so Gary can cook with music.

Hey Jerrid,

The drying is merely for storing.  Like bread, the pasta needs to rest 10-20 minutes after the cutting. After the rest, you can cook it immediately.  Drying allows for 30 days or so of storage. The wet dough can be wrapped and stored in the frig for a day or two prior to cutting.

Buenos Noches Fellow PhotographyTalkers. Gary is sooooo full. 



Gary whipped up a rib eye roast. 



24 hours in the Sous Vide, cooking away in beaucoup herbs and spices. Then Gary tossed into the oven for the final temp rise and a crispy outside.
