The Coffee Shop: A place to relax and hang out.

5 years 1 month ago - 5 years 1 month ago #636792 by GaryA
This has been a tough and busy week. A new roof, rain, materials on back order, #1 daughter and grandkids coming in from St. Louis, funeral ... just a long, non-stop week. Mary Lou and Gary are done, throwing in the towel, relaxing with a glass of vino.

Sounds like you need to unplug and have a little Gary time to reflect.

Soon, still a bit busy today, early day tomorrow ... but Tuesday Gary is planning to work from home, check out around noon and cook up some pozole for Mary Lou. What are you up to?

Construction management ... I consult on government construction projects.  (But I used to be a photojournalist.)

Ok, that sounds like something that would keep you on your feet!  How long have you been doing that?

Gary has been in construction for ... dunno ... about 15 years.

That must be one heck of a protective filter!  LMAO

So of the looks of it, you spend a lot of time outdoors?  Do you bring your camera with you?

A fair amount is outside. But after the building shell is erected ... then much of my time will be spent inside. I always bring a camera. Gary documents the work/job site  at the end of everyday as well as real and potential problems.

Yesterday, Gary’s new roof was completed. It is an Energy Star shingle which has a reflective rating of 29%. The roof is called/colored Sage and the patio roof is white. The new roof also has a lot of venting.   Consequently, Gary is ready for some global warming. Gary is beat, there has been a ton of prepping for the painting.

Did you do the roof work yourself or have someone do it?  My dad did roof ~15 years ago.  I remember him saying that he would not do that again.  Our family just doesn't do well with heights at all.

Gary hasn't a problem with heights ... but a complete tear-off and a complete new roof is more than Gary desires to bite off.  Alex, the roofer did a very good job, Gary is quite pleased with the workmanship.

(Not Gary's house, lol.  Building at Ft. Irwin, in the middle of the Mojave Desert.)

Construction is a lot of fun.  When I was younger I had built a number of homes over the years.  Some of the best times!
