Ballet Stage photography

I've been invited to accompany the long-time pro photographer to shoot the Carolina Ballet Company's final dress rehearsal of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" this Wednesday night... This could potentially open some doors for me and I want to get it right if I can!

I've shot a few concerts before but the stage lighting is entirely different at a rock concert.. Has anyone here ever shot a play or ballet and can you share some tips with me? Even though my friend would help me if I ask, it would be nice if I didn't have to bother him all night long for advice..

A fast 85mm and a monopod. May have to boost your ISO to 800 or more to get a decent shutter speed. Depends on how fast they are moving (dancing) and how much light there is.

Wow! This sounds like a fabulous opportunity.

For something this important maybe you should hire a photographer???

Have a good time and then post the photos for us.

Thanks for the tips Matthew.. appreciate it!

Charles - I certainly hope so.. I met this guy through the photo print shop we both use - he was looking for someone to help him with a new website and I was there, right time, right place... Bob was the original staff photog for "Crawdaddy" magazine back in the late 60's through the 70's. He knows "a ton" of people in the business and is helping me make the contacts to become a successful commercial photographer...
