Which Camera to Get?

Hello,
I want to purchase either a Canon powershot G12 or a Nikon P 7100 primarily for travel. I have read all the reviews, all of which seem to be so close to one another to make a difinitive decision. I don't want to spend higher than what these two are going for, any higher I might as well invest towards a new DSLR. Does anyone have an opinion on either one of these two cameras?

They both are really good cameras, as you read from the reviews. It really comes down to, go to a store and play with both them. Looks through the menus, take pictures with both etc.. and see which one you are more comfortable using.

They are basically the same camera. The biggest differences from my point of view are that the nikon lens has a wider zoom range (all on the telephoto side) and the canon has a fully articulating screen rather than a tilting screen.

I own the G11, and the fully articulating screen is a great feature. My profile pic was taken using that feature; turn the screen to the side and turn it around and you can frame a self shot.

In the store, it seemed to me that the optical viewfinder on the P7100 had quite a bit more distortion. Too bad both viewfinders are on the small side.
