30 Days of Tuscany- Day 5- ITALIAN FOOD!

10 years 9 months ago - 10 years 9 months ago #290996 by Tuscan Muse
One of my favorite stories about the guests we host through Tuscan Muse involves food. On the first day of a recent photography workshop, one of the participants came up to me at breakfast with a cup of yogurt in her hand. She asked, "Can you read the back of this cup and tell me how many calories it has?" I looked at her with amazement. I could not help but say, "Are you kidding me? You are in Italy and you intend to count calories?"

The food in Italy is incomparable and there is always lots of it! In Tuscany, the food is made from simple ingredients, but they are always fresh and in season. We never worry about counting calories at all. In fact, I get emails after workshops and tours from folks who are delighted that they did not gain weight during the one to two week food fest that is a big part of our fun in Tuscany. I'm convinced it is because of all the walking we do, discovering the best spots to photograph the beauty of Tuscany.

Wild boar is a traditional Tuscan food. It is typicaly paired with Brunello wine from Montalcino. This photo was taken in San Gimignano.

Salumi, Capocollo, Mortadella, Proscuitto, among other deli meats, traditionally served as the antipasto Photo taken in Montepulciano.

Porcini mushrooms are sacred to Tuscan cooking. It's really fun to walk into the woods porcini hunting. Photo taken in Pienza.

Artichokes were in season during our May photography workshop. Our Chef was so pleased when we brought some back to him from Castel del Piano.

We have a rule on our trips: a gelato a day keeps the doctor away!
Photo taken in Santa Fiora.

Good question John! They seem to have disappeared into some wonderful sauce in cyberspace. Replacing them now.
Thanks for letting me know.
