As for tripod/monopod, it's not the 'pod that matters, it's the head. You need a Manfrotto head that accepts this particular plate. Here's one fairly good general purpose ballhead that uses the RC2 style plates. Of course, choice depends on what equipment you are planning to use on it. I've found this basic monopod tilt head to be very useful on a monopod too. These heads can be used on any brand of legs or monopod.
Normally one would keep the quick release plate on the camera to simplify mounting and dismounting from a 'pod. Using the BR strap requires removing the QR plate though - one of the disadvantages of the BR straps. I know of a way around this with the more expensive Arca-Swiss QR system but not with this Manfrotto system.
