"Affordable and great" when referring to tripods is an oxymoron. You need to go put your hands on a few, lift them, check out the features and the same with the head. I have three or four and my favorite is a Induro CLT004, and I have a Desmond DB-44 ball head. Its ok but far from great....If you shop prices only, you'll end up with a few down the road sitting in a closet like I have....

Why so serious?

Ernest hit the nail on the head. Tripods are either affordable (meaning inexpensive) or great (meaning expensive). . That said, you need to state the amount of money you are willing to shell out before any answers can really be given.

Try either Vanguard or 3 Legged Thing.  Both are affordable and have a decent product for the money.

I've used Manfrotto tripods for quite some time and have found them to be set at pretty reasonable prices. There are a lot of different options, so you can look through them to find the one that best suits your needs.

Well I like picking up good used tripods on CL. I see where some people are giving up on making their living from photography, and making the only sure money to make from it, and that is selling your gear.

It's what I have as my travel pod but it has since been discontinued, only available on the used market now....
