Would any of you know if this tripod has a 3/8" or 1/4" stud on it?   From what I have read of the specs online, some show 1/4" and others are showing it has both?

Standard tripod mounting across the board is 1/4"x20. Very common and easy to find in any hardware store too.

These guys make a good tripod for the $$.  I had one a few years ago, my wife got me for Christmas.  Little heavy, but super stable tripod.  It's still going strong, even though it's been bumped up pretty good.

I can't recall if Vanguard ships with the sleeve, but some tripods will have that 1/4" to 3/8" sleeve that goes over the 1/4" bolt so you have options.

Unless it's a pretty lightweight unit, most standard tripod screws (fitting head) are 3/8" - 16. Common camera screws (fitting lens or camera) are 1/4" - 20, though some larger lenses, cameras, bellows, adapters, &c., may accept either or both threads. Manfrotto, among others, offers 1/4" - 20 female thread to 3/8" - 16 male thread bushings.
