A reader pointed out to me the other day that I keep doing reviews of cameras that are at least a couple of years old and I have to be honest, I think it’s because I really have a sweet spot for affordable cameras. The FujiFilm X-T20 is the perfect example of this.
The FujiFilm X-T20 is a few years old. It came out in 2017. Because of this, it is one of the most affordable SLR-style mirrorless cameras that you can pick up right now.
The FujiFilm X-T20 is a midrange mirrorless camera that replaced the X-T10 in this Fujifilm line. It comes with a bunch of great specs, like 4K video (which is rare in cameras this old), a 24MP sensor, and an impressive autofocus system.

FujiFilm X-T20 Specs
The FujiFilm X-T20 features a 24MP CMOS sensor, an X-Processor Pro2, and an ISO rating of 200-12,800. Together, these features provide it with great still photography in bright light, though its low-light shooting is lacking.
This camera also features an electronic viewfinder with 100% coverage and 2.36m-dot resolution. This is about average for a camera in this price range, but is still nice to see.
When it comes to the LCD, you can expect to find a 3” tilting touchscreen (which is a huge win), although its resolution isn’t incredible at 1.04m-dots.
Finally, this camera comes with a faster burst mode in comparison with its predecessor at 8fps.

FujiFilm X-T20 Body & Design
The FujiFilm X-T20 body is a pretty typical body for a FujiFilm mirrorless camera. It only weighs 0.84 lbs and measures 4.65” x 3.27” x 1.61”. You could easily bring it with you as your everyday camera and it also works really well as a travel companion.
The FujiFilm X-T20 design mimics the design of its predecessor. The camera is built out of magnesium alloy and a textured rubber, features a deep, angular grip, and looks really beautiful. I think that most FujiFilm fans are FujiFilm fans because they create cameras that look so much better than the competition’s, even when they don’t perform that much better.
One frustrating thing about the design of this camera is the fact that the buttons are a little too small for my liking. I would recommend looking for other mirrorless options if you live somewhere that requires you to shoot with gloves on a regular basis.

FujiFilm X-T20 Build & Handling
The FujiFilm X-T20 build lends itself to great handling because the camera is truly the perfect size. There are so many benefits to the FujiFilm X-T20 handling that I’m worried I can’t name them all.
For starters, it really fits well in your hand. The grip is perfect and never gets in the way, although there is the option to purchase an additional hand grip if you like your grips to be a little deeper. You can reach all of the buttons easily if you’re doing some one-handed shooting.
I think that the battery life on this camera is also perfect. It is rated for 350 shots, but I’ve found that this number can be greatly improved in practice. Still, 350 shots is more than I ever take in a day, which means I don’t ever have to bring a backup battery with me unless I’m going somewhere overnight.
FujiFilm X-T20 Video Performance

Now, the FujiFilm X-T20 is really in that sweet spot. Since it was released in 2017, it features 4K video at up to 30p. Unless you’re a professional videographer, this is going to provide you with video quality that works for most scenarios. Keep in mind that you cannot shoot clips longer than 10 minutes with the FujiFilm X-T20 in 4K, which is the biggest downside to its video capabilities.
This camera comes with focus peaking and a manual audio level adjustment, although it doesn’t feature zebra patterns or face detection.
In comparison with the more professional X-T2, the 4K video present here isn’t quite as good because it hasn’t been oversampled. However, it can shoot video while using all of the different Film Simulation modes. This means you can create really fun videos, like black-and white options.
FujiFilm X-T20 Price
Since the FujiFilm X-T20 price is such a huge selling point, I figured I better tell you what it is. When the FujiFilm X-T20 first came out, you could pick one up for $900. If I’m being honest, I didn’t buy one then. I didn’t think the FujiFilm X-T20 specs were worth nearly a grand.
However, I did pick up a FujiFilm X-T20 at the beginning of this year because I found one on MPB for an incredible price.

But, suffice it to say, MPB has far more used cameras than their competitors do and they have a complete staff of professional photographers to grade each piece of equipment they buy. So, you can actually expect your new-to-you camera to show up in whatever condition the site says it will. Unfortunately, this is pretty rare.
So, I just did another search for the FujiFilm X-T20 on MPB and found out that they currently have two cameras in stock. Both of them are in excellent condition. Both of them are selling for $454. That’s exactly 50% off what you would have spent on the FujiFilm X-T20 if you had bought it when it first came out.
