A stand along video camera or a DSLR that can shoot video?

I thought someone would have responded to this question by now. I believe that the camera designed for a specific purpose would shine in that area better. I've never been impressed by stills captured from my video camera and likewise my still cameras videos are not that good. Now, that being said... I have not shot any HD videos to make a updated comparison. I would have to believe also that the quality of the camera comes into play. Comparing midpriced cameras in each area, my statement above would ring true.

Which is better for doing what? Shooting video or taking still photographs?

Stand-alone will outperform multi-function devices since they are "tuned" for that purpose. A huge difference in video is the sound quality.
I personally wish the DSLR manufacturers spend their resources on improvements other than video but it is a marketing game.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
