Help expanding my equipment, please

13 years 3 months ago #17824 by polly.hampton
I'm fairly new to photography and I want to expand the equipment I have for my Canon Rebel XS. I started looking online but it's all so overwhelming what with all the acronyms and numbers and technical jargon.

Could someone more knowledgeable that me point me in the direction of a easy to understand guide to purchasing lenses and filters? Thank you.

My suggestion. Go to your local camera store and get advice from them. Be sure to take your camera with you. Tell them your budget and let them guide you. That's what they're there for.

There are Penn Camera locations in Tysons, Springfield and Fair Lakes. Check them out. I have a XT and love it (so much that I bought an XSi and use both).

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Polly - What do you have now (lenses)? And what do you like to photograph? Also an idea about budget will help us give you advice

One suggestion when it comes to purchasing a lens, is to rent it from a resource such as www.cameralensrentals.com .

You can learn a lot about Canon lenses and equpment here :

and more about lenses here

It would help if we knew what camera and lenses you have now. Also what type of photography do you shoot? In reality depending what subjects you shoot depends on what lenses and equipment you buy. You do not want to buy a 500mm lens, when you only plan on shoot portraits.
