Vibration Reduction - How does it work?

13 years 3 months ago #18396 by jenny_sue
My camera comes with something called VR - Virbration Reduction. My dad says something to help keep the camera from breaking in the trunk of the car and stuff like that. I told him it's got something to do with the camera thinking it's not being jiggled when it really is?

Is either of us correct? Can someone give us a quick lesson?

You're much closer than your dad. VR helps prevent some of your photos from turning out blurry by minimizing the shaking from your hands while holding the camera. It's not magic, though, as it doesn't do anything if you're trying to capture moving objects.

If your camera has it, use it. If not, you don't need to rush out and buy another camera.

it's designed to counteract the effects off too much coffee or perhaps coming of drugs of some kind.

If its Canon or Nikon, only if you bought one. Example, a basic Canon 70-300 without it can be bought for about $150, one WITH it is about $500.
Other brands build the VR (or IS) into the camera body so any lens gets it.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Ok, I have a Nikon 18-70, but there are no VR letters on it. So I guess I don't have one. Thanks.

Yeh, Nikon doesn't have any sort of stabilsation built into the bodies (Sony does and I think Olympus do too).

Some lenses don't have VR. Yours obviously doesn't. :)

Right, only Nikon and Canon put theirs in the lens. Everyone else who has it (and I think that's all by now) have it in the body.
