At what point did you start calling yourself a photographer? To early and the pro's could think of you as a poser. So at what point did you start to call yourself a photographer?

I am just a man with a camera. Although one time (in band camp  ) I had my camera strapped to me and I went to Starbucks. The guy asked my if I was a photogrpaher. I was not sure how to answer. But I said "yes"!.

I have had people ask me that. I have found if I say I am a Photog people automatically assume I am a PRO. So I say, 'Yes, I am an Avid Amateur.'

I don't know, maybe when people started asking things like - Are you taking pictures for ____? (the local paper etc.). Can you get me a picture of ____ ? (name of favorite player) - I'll pay you for it!

Or maybe when people in the crowd start waving at you, or the mascots start jumping around in front of you, wanting you to take their picture.

I guess when you get to the point of 'being a photographer' you know it.

I was a photographer the moment my parents handed me a camera. I didn't become a good photographer until many years later.

My tax forms say photographer. I tell people I am a wedding photographer when they ask what I do for a living. I think of myself more of as a visual artist. Photographers have too many silly rules. ;)

If you take pictures you are a photographer, does not mean you are good it or crappy.

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

I started to call myself a photographer when I decided to really go for my business as a wedding photographer and get serious. Before that I didn't really feel the need.

I like your answer. :goodpost: As for me, I'm a photographer when I'm out trying to do something with this beyond being an expensive hobby. Do I introduce myself as a photographer? Nope. Haven't gotten there yet. ;)

Everyone who is into photography claim themselves as “photographer”, but I guess the next question is are you an amateur or a professional, are you a hobbyist or a pro?

I'm an amateur, and that's what I call myself. When people call me "a photographer" I'm actually uncomfortable with it. It'll be awhile and take some experience before I call myself that! ;)
