Teacher wants me to take pictures.

one of my teachers at my High School likes my work, and she wants me to take pictures of her daughter. I've never really worked with kids, and I was looking for any tips or tricks possible.

I mean I snap pictures of my friends and stuff, but I never shot portraits of young children. I won't be getting paid. I'm basically doing it to build my portfolio.

How old is the daughter? That can make a big difference is portraits.
So glad she likes your work.

Check out the article on page 3 of the Articles Section here. Also do a Search (button on bar above) for portraits to search the forum for postings.

Also take candids of the little girl playing naturally. Just beware of background "clutter".
As a beginner, don't try to "pose" her too much. This may make her nervous, just talk to her and let her react.

Thank you Baydream. I'll check out the site later. I hoping to shoot more candids, as it would be easier on me. I don't know if I have the guts yet to try to pose someone.

Exactly, just have fun. You have fun shooting the daughter who is having fun playing. You be surprised the incredible shots you will get.

I have an 8 year old daughter. :)

I'd say, get here to have fun. Take her out to a field and get her to jump about, play with leaves whatever. Make it natural and fun.

Unless she likes posing, the last thing you want to do it force her to stand still for too long. ;)

That said. Once she gets use to you. Don't be afraid to get her to look at the camera, some eye contact is good for portraits.
