What is the correct way to say "ISO"

6 years 4 weeks ago #574029 by Alfonso Camil
OK, I'm still the newbie and hearing people say "ISO" in a couple different ways.  So what is the correct way of saying it?

I-S-O  or Eye-so?

Have always said I S O just like it was A S A in film days.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

"eye-sew"

Sorry.  But that's what we unix nerds do: turn TLAs into words.

I'm going to go with "I think that's incorrect".

Um, International Standards Organization. The follow-on to ASA, the American Standards Association, and DIN, Europe, a  logarithmic scale for sensitivity, developed by the Deutsches Institut für  Normung, meaning "German Institute for Standardisation".

It's a TLA that has come to have its own meaning.

I use both. It doesn't matter. Anybody with the slightest knowledge about photography will know what you mean.

Eh, its another "how to pronounce bokeh", or how to spell "lens/lense" thread....We should sticky a thread for all of them....

Why so serious?

So, how does one pronounce "TLA"?

Excellent question. Some TLAs don't get turned into words (NBC, CIA, UFC, WWE, NFL, JFK) because you can't. I suppose TLA falls into that category.

LAX, on the other hand...
