Do you use a lens hood even on modern lenses?

Are lens hoods still AS NEEDED today with all the lens technology advancements?

No doubt about it, it will help protect the quality
of any capture in terms of colours and help avoid
flairs and glares eventually.

Light is free… capturing it is not!

ADDENDUM

That is should one be under opened bright skies
but will protect the front element in any case.

Go outside on a sunny day and shade your eyes with your hand to our forehead. This does the same thing a lens hood does for a lens.

G'day Pat

100% of the time with the new Panny as its lens front element is so exposed it "sees too much"

Most of my older cameras / lenses were more recessed into the lens body, so I could get away with it

Also - SF's comment has been one of my life-long lens hood / diminish glare methods as well

Lens technology advancements have been mostly in the area of electronics.  They haven't eliminated the physics of light and optics.  Lens hoods shade the front element from light entering from an angle that isn't a part of the subject and protects it physically as a bonus.  Always use a lens hood.

Talk about a punch in the face of helpful information!  OK that example of going outdoor was a good visual too.  Thank you all.
