Reflector question

13 years 5 months ago #6170 by Heathbar
I'm looking to buy a reflector. I learning to shoot sports teams. Some of my settings have great light some some do not. I'm sometimes able to stand off to the side and take pictures in a well lit area would it be smart to get a reflector for those times were I do have to stand in a well lit area but the rest the areas light is ok? If so, what brand, size, etc?

First off what camera / lens combo are you using ? What are you shooting- action or portraits of teams. are you shooting indoors or outdoors ? Are you using an accessory flash or the pop-up on the camera body if you are using a flash at all. I shoot pro hockey with available light only-no flash. I use a Nikon D 90 body with an 80-200mm f 2.8 zoom , a 300mm f 4 , and a 28-70mm f 2.8 as my lenses and don't use reflectors at all . I have shot football outdoors at night and used a flash for extra illumination with success , again with the above lenses on both film and digital bodies. I have shot individual/team portraits in daylight with fill flash professionally. You can check out some of my pix here on PT or the online magazine www.prohockeynews.com in the american pro tab under ECHL and the Cincinnati Cyclones articles in the archive.

I agree. If you're shooting sports, and not portraits of sports players after the game, faster glass and even a better body would be recommended, not a reflector.
