RAW on the T3i SD card vs 5D CF card

11 years 11 months ago #227524 by John Falk
Greetings,

I had a Rebel XT and XTi for the better part of 10 years. I recently upgraded to a 5D and Rebel T3i. I use Photoshop Elements 9 and Lightroom 3 (naturally I bought it a week before Lightroom 4 came out :-) the 5D uses a CF card and the T3i a SD card. After my first photo jaunt at an airshow, which I shoot in RAW, I found both Elements and Lightroom worked fine with the CF card and related files from the 5D, but both did not recognize the "file types" from the SD card from the T3i. However, the Canon Digital Photo Professional program-which I have never used until now, does recognize the files from the SD card. Is there something I can do to get Element and Lightroom to recognize the file types? am I missing a setting? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

JF

In the program, see if there is a update patch (probably under Help).
As far as I can remember, they use the same CS2 format. I know my XT (CF) and XSi and 60D (CF) did. In fact, I think every one since 2006 does. Picasa picks them up as well as the Canon program and Corel Photo Pro X4.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Do a software update in Lightroom. I believe support for the T3i was added in LR3.4. You should be able to go to Help->Check for Updates.

:agree:

Get the last update for LR3. Somewhere there should be a list of what Canon cameras it supports (CR2 file formats are not all the same? ). If you use a newer camera that's not on the list for LR3 you either need to use the free Adobe DNG Converter or upgrade to LR4.

t3i and LR3 here, shoot in raw and no issues all around. I agree with the above. :)
