Is the Canon 1DX really worth the money?

My 7D is looking for a new big brother, and I have been looking and considering other options.  Most likely the 5D Mark III will be the winner.  But I can't help to look at the specs of the 1Dx and like what I see, but to shell out $7000?  I'm not sure.  I would like to hear from 1DX owners, and to see how happy they are with their camera.  Any regrets?

I don't regret it because I make money from it.

If I didn't I'd just get a 5Diii and be happy with a almost as good camera.

The 1Dx is an excellent camera though, very nice. Heavy though.

Just like the D4 and other high end bodies, its a lot of cash to lay out if you're a hobbyist.....

Why so serious?

In a presentation by Ken Conger  www.kencongerphotography.com , he said he never thought he would move from the 5D until he tried the 1DX. Yes, he is a pro but wow, what shots he gets.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Baydream, thanks for the Ken Conger link! Beautiful work. Are these images from his 1DX do you know?

I agree, amazing shots.  I have a friend in Africa right now, he has two 1Dx and a 200-400 with him (and I assume a wider lens) and a Fuji X-T1.  He has no excuses. ;)

As for seeing if the shots are from the 1Dx or other:

Click on an image there so it pops up on it's own.

Click "Show Details" then "Info"

It should look like this:

Some of his shots from the past year are with the 1Dx. He would be more than happy to reveal his equipment and EXIF data. His presentation for our club included data on every photo. Great guy.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

I am a professional photographer and I use the 1DX(s) exclusively. The main reason is the build, image quality might be a little better but the camera is built like a tank. I shoot a lot of sports like rodeo, motocross, football, etc. The 1DX can stand up to the elements better than any other Canon Camera. I have complete submerged my camera with an lens attached ( not on purpose!!), toweled it off and kept shooting.  IF I get any other Canon camera it will be whatever replaces the 1DX.
