Need help on a lens upgrade.

I have a 18-55mm kit lens. I would like to upgrade it for better glass. I would like to keep the same general range, it doesn't have to be the exact 18-55, but in the general area. Can any recommend a good lens to upgrade too?

Since you didn't place a budget limit on your question I'm going to offer a few ideas.

1) The Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS is an excellent lens on a crop body camera.... very well thought of
Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS

2) Next suggest is the Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM .... a lens that has a good reputation at a moderate price
Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Both of these lenses have image stabilization IS

3) Last recommendation is the Canon medium zoom standard bearer, known as "The Brick"
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM .... This lens will also work on a Canon ful frame camera body if you were to upgrade to a body such as the 5D Mark II
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

What about: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS

There is nothing wrong with the 24-105. The original poster mentioned staying in the same zoom range as the lens that they already have, so that's the lenses that I focused on.

I have the 24-105, sometimes I do miss out on the wider end, but i find that to not happen to often.

However this is heavily dependent on your shooting style.

You could possibly look through your photos to see what ranges you shoot at most often. To see whether the current range is perfect, or that you often want want to go longer or wider.

In which case may affect your decisions. Also if it is the second version of the kit 18-55 it is actually quite a good lens when stopped down a little.

I'll write something here when....ooooh shiney

I had the 24-105 on a crop body and also on FF.

It's REALLY nice on FF, not really wide enough on a crop.
