Help.....purchasing lights

12 years 11 months ago #71067 by forget me not photography
I am very new to this. I have worked with a professional photographer but all the equipment was hers so I am clueless as to how to purchase my own lights  I will be photographing newborns, children, seniors, families and boudoir. I know I was two lights, a large soft box light and a filler light if that makes sense. Maybe describing will work.....the one Im used to using is fairly big and rectangular and the other was an umbrella with the fabric over it. I went onto B&H and I noticed everything is sold separately and they speak a foreign language (photography terms) :) I dont have have much money (couple hundred) as Im just starting and I get married in 4 months but I do want to get lights worth while. I also want to invest in pocket wizards so that I am not attached to lights, but wireless. I need desperate help in how to buy lights and what I need....please help.

Start by clicking on the Photoflex logo at the bottom of the page and download the catalog. Then when people mention certain items you will have a reference. They do offer some "kits" that could be a start.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Besides the two lights it is good to have at least a third for the kicker or hair light. Even using an off camera flash. Also don't forget Adorama besides B&H. Plus there are many others. You might even check craigslist or photographer sites that might want to sell their studio equipment.
