Which Printer Is Best For Using Refill Kits!

I'm trying to find a printer that is the best to use if you use refill kits
for refilling the ink cartridges instead of buying new ink kits.

The printing I will be doing will have both text & a picture on it and
will be heaver paper than regular paper printer paper.

I cannot recommend a printer but I can tell you that if you put refill ink cartridges in an epson printer it comes up with a warning and will not allow you to clean the printer heads. so its one make to avoid.

My Epson printer gave me that warning with genuine Epson cartridges in it, the ones it came with !!...That said, I tried the "refillable" kits & didn't care for them...Too messy & they gave inconsistent results...

Epson cartridges have "chips" in them that unless reset do not perform well. I gave up on refilling for the same reason as Scott - messy and unreliable. Even a lot of third party cartridges either don't last long or require lots of cleaning (that wastes ink).

I have "heard" that HP printers work with refilled ink, but don't have personal experience. All mine have been Canon or Epson.

I had an HP that did fairly well with cartridges that I refilled for a long time, but the cartridges wear out after about 3 rounds and start making streaks. After awhile all I got was streaks regardless of cartridges, so I moved on to a new printer. (but that may have been simply due to the age of the printer).

I bought a Kodak recently and although it's fairly nice it also has one of those chip issues. The new cartridges are cheap, but driving across town to get them is a pain the butt, so I bought some replacement chips and I refill them. They work fine, but the chips are about 2 buck a piece.

Edited to add. I don't use my printer for any serious photo printing (I have a few times, but prefer to just order prints), so my print quality is more based on text documents and small 4x6 photos.

Did you notice that it seems the less expensive the printer, the more expensive the cartridges. They get you either way.

Although it is cheaper to use refill cartridges, I would not recommend it with any good quality photo printer. Although the refill companies say the ink is the same, I would say that it is not possible as the companies change the composition of the inks. But an even bigger problem is that some (most) manufacturers won't warranty repair the printer if you have used non-manufacturer inks.

I have never used anything but genuine in my printer and these days I don't think you are saving anything when it comes to photos.

I have used canon printers for 10 years and have always used genuine inks, they are formulated for the print head.

I heard the old laserjets are good for refilling.

The printing I will be doing will have text & a photo for a flyer that I
will be passing out.
