Hi,
It's time i replaced my 450d and i have 2 bodies in mind. The only thing i'm not sure about with the 1d mkiii is the crop of 1.3.............. is it the same principal with my 450d crop factor. I multiply my lens by the 1.3? If so does this mean a 24-70 (which would remain the same on the 5d) becomes a 31-90 lens? Or does the 1d mkiii over come this somehow?

Yes, your FOV would be multiplied by 1.3 as it's a crop camera.

BTW those are two different cameras you are comparing...what do you plan on doing with it?

Hi,
Its going to be for all ropund photography. Weddings, landscapes, horse jumping etc.
If the 1d mkiii multiplies the lens by 1.3 it's looking more like the 5d mkii.....................

For horse jumping, or really anything with fast motion, I would also take into account the auto-focus system. I'm not sure what the 1D mkIII has, but the 5D mkII isn't known for its ability to track fast moving subjects. 5D mkIII on the other hand is quite good at that, but of course it's in a whole different price range.

Yeh personally I'd skip the 5DII and just save longer for a 5DIII.

How deeply invested are you in a Canon system? I'm not a Nikon expert since I shoot Canon, but from everything I've heard and read it seems like Nikon really does a better job with auto-focus for fast action.

If you just have the 450D kit and not a whole collection of glass and lighting, it might make sense to consider selling your current gear and switching. I think a D700 is comparable in price to a 5DmkII, so it fits with the amount you're already intending to spend. And if you're able to sell your current kit, that might pay for a good lens.

Again, I'm no Nikon expert so I may not be totally correct here. Scotty and Adrian both have lots of experience with both brands, so hopefully they'll correct me if I'm wrong. But I thought this might be a good third option based on your needs.
