When to buy a camera new on the market

When I purchase a computer, I wait a year first. But would that sort of thing hold true for new cameras? Would you wait before buying a camera new to the market?

The advantage to waiting is that you get more people trying it out and reviewing it, which allows you to know the pros & cons before you buy.

I would wait until you see me buy a new camera. One week after I finally put down the cash they always drop in price significantly. :toocrazy:

Check the release schedule. Canon and Nikon seem to release a new model each year or so, splitting the time period. When you see a price drop, you know a new model is about to come out and you can get a good deal on the "old" one .

You mentioned you wait a year on a computer? That makes you about 50 versions behind current, doesn't it? How's Windows ME working for you? :pinch:

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Well I wait about 4 to 6 months by then the first buyers have them and they are on a second run by then. In the second run they have fixed any problems. I have yet to get a bad body that way.

Wouldn't want you to get a bad body, Joves.

The camera I have now is my first DSLR and it was out for a while until I bought it. Took me a while to try and decide what camera I wanted.

:agree: but a part of me is like a kid at Christmas. I want it now, and just can not wait a couple months for it, for other people's reviews.

I always think of "Consumer Reports". The next issue after you replace a broken refrigerator tells you you bought the wrong one.

But yes, any price drop is a good clue. But, don't confuse that with scammer prices on the web (most everything Brooklyn based). Check prices at B&H, Adorama or Calumet.

Wait for what? If you are talking about price, what will you save on a $3.000.00 camera, a hundred bucks? Bugs in the new model? If you wait six months, you will likely get a model sitting on a shelf right now.
If there is something you want now, waiting might cost you more,(see D700) and you can't take a picture with a camera you don't have......

Why so serious?

When a new model is released most of the camera mags write reviews so reading the review helps in the decision process.
