Can anyone help me with tips and tricks on how to edit shadow in photos taken with a white/black backdrop. I do not have CS, only elements 8.

Would really appreciate any help!

I have included a photo for an example.

First question would be, what do you want to do with your shadow?

You could save yourself a lot of trouble by setting up a second light to prevent the shadow in the first place.

Yes, that would be a very tough image to separate from the background as the hair and shadow are very close in tone. Also, there is a shadow on the arm that would always remain. The best plan is to take it again...

Ah, shadow removal. Clone tool would do it, or just cut the background right out. Bit tricky around the hair but it's maskable, I think.. You'd still be left with some pretty harsh lighting on the subject, though.
