Which do you use most for your day to day post processing? With the new upgrades in Lightroom 4, is there a need for Photoshop?

I use photoshop 99 percent of the time.

Lightroom 4 is in the 'Beta' testing phase,it`s not the finished product.Don`t have Lightroom 3
so i`ll stick with CS5 which get what I want done.I know it works great with my plugins too.

I use LR for most of my processing, moving to PS(CS3) mostly for occasional layers work and because I like PS's healing tools better.

Lately I've been considering doing away with PS altogether. The advent of onOne's Perfect Layers takes care of that aspect. I played with the perfect layers beta a year ago and really liked it. It does everytthing I want with layers and I liked the interface better. I didn't buy it at the time since I already had PS. The new version 2 looks even better. Maybe it's time. Perfect Layers 2 also has some basic healing tools that look useful.

The recently announced changes in pricing policy by Adobe and the attempt to steer users towards a subscription model has made me seriously consider not upgrading PS anymore. An outcry from PS users has caused Adobe to modify its policy but I suspect that might just be delaying the change to the next version. I'm finding it harder to justify the high cost of PS when I use it primarily as a "plug-in" for LR and there are now much cheaper alternatives that do what I want from it.

Same here, its probably because I learned the PS workflow, and I can't find anything in LR3 that I can't do in CS5.....B)

Why so serious?

I start in LR3 do as much as I can but I always take a trip into CS5 for the finer processing work, I feel they work together great for me so dont see a need to choose between the two.

I'm using Lightroom for just about 90% of my work, what can't be done here I'll tighten up in Photoshop.

I don't own photoshop. I use lightroom3.

I never got the impression that they were meant to be competing products. Lightroom is mostly a photo management system with limited (but expanding) editing capabilities. The most awesome parts are when you want to do something (like adjust white balance) on a whole set of photos at once. This is very easy in Lightroom.

Photoshop is (as I understand it) very good at editing one picture at a time.

As I said, I don't own photoshop. And as long as it costs $500 or more, I don't plan to own it.

But I'm not into making heavily processed images or anything like that. And if I did decide to get into something that lightroom can't do well (panoramas or HDR for example) I'd probably look into a specialized plugin.

I use Lr beta 4 for 90% of my normal photography processing because it's quicker than cs5. I'll use cs5 for my localized adjustments when needed. I can't stand the brush tool in Lr.

For manipulations I only use cs5 unless one of my stock photos is still in raw format.
