Capture NX2 - Purchase Advice

12 years 2 months ago #203343 by NikonBob
Beware - do not purchase Capture NX2 from ImageMixer. They are not an authorized Nikon seller. Nikon has a warning on their site not to purchase NX2 from them (though it is not promenantly displayed). Also, if you Google 'Nikon Imagemixer' you will find pages of complaints against this company. I myself was a victim, but happily after much persistence got my money back. In addition if you buy the product from an authorized Nikon dealer the package comes with Color Efex 3.0. Here in Canada the resultant price with tax is significantly less than you will pay for the bundled illegal package (NX2 + Efex3) from ImageMixer.

If you give some links to this info with more validity, I will make it a sticky.

Is the Color Efex 3 only for the Capture NX2 only or the complete plugin?.
I have that setup but don`t use it,don`t like the non-preview work flow,prefer PS instead.Got CNX2
via upgrade from CNX1 for about $90!
Great find though,thx for posting.

I did not include any links because I have found that some forums prohibit them!

Color Efex 3 is only for Capture NX2. It does not even show up as a separate program in your installed programs list - it is built right in.

If you click on View/Compare Images you can compare the altered image side by side with the original. However, you cannot make further alterations while the original is open which is a little inconvenient. However, since I much prefer NX2 to Elements 10 I am willing to put up with it, even though I have Elements 10 with Efex 4.0. I could make alterations with Efex in Elements then make further alterations with NX2, but that might be cumbersome.

No problem about the links. The NikonUSA one dori listed works. I hope this thread saves people some money and headaches.

I just got this follow-up e-mail from ImageMixer ...

Hello Bob,

Thank you for your email.

We've processed a full refund back to you. You should see the refund amount
credited to your credit balance in the next few days.

Please uninstall your current version of Nikon Capture NX 2 software by
following the instructions on the following page:

support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/...software-application

You will then be able to purchase the software from a retailer you feel more
comfortable with.

Please note that the product keys for Nikon products issued through
ImageMixer.net are processed through Commission Junction. In no way are they
pirated or illegal. If you have read otherwise, then statements are not
factual and, therefore, libelous.

We hope this now resolves any concerns you may have had.

Sincerely,
ImageMixer.net

If their denial of any wrong doing is true, why does Nikon, the developer of the software, warn against buying from them? I will let you be the judge as to whether you would be comfortable purchasing from them. I know that I am comfortable with my decision and with the software now installed on my computer.

I spent some time today trying to discover the legitimacy of the plug in Color Efex 3.0 on my computer. I have come to the conclusion that it is not on the box disc. Even though I uninstalled it and ran Nikon Registry app to remove all trace of the ImageMixer install of NX2, it seems the plug-in Color Efex 3.0 remained in the registry.

So, it was plugged into the 32 bit box version of NX2 when I installed it. That is why when I install the 64 bit version from Nikon, which goes into the Program folder rather than the Program x86 folder, it does not plug in.
