Help me improve the results

I spent a little while experimenting adding makeup in Photoshop (I use Elements 7). It's my first crack at it and i don't know how thrilled I am about it. I think it may be that since she wasn't wearing makeup then the light is not reflecting off the surface of her skin quite as it would if she were wearing foundation. I'm having particular trouble with the eyeshadow. Tips, ideas etc are very welcome.

Most of the time the stuff I edit, has had professional makeup artist working on it.

It really doesn't help you add anything to your photo, but I just want you to know that most shots you see in magazines had a team of makeup artists going to town on them.

Food for thought.

Oh yeah for sure, this was mostly an exercise in seeing what's possible/reasonable.

Honestly, your results don't look bad at all. Are you doing them on seperate layers?

Yep, there are actually two slightly different tones over the eyes as well. It tried to keep it relatively subtle...the whole time I had Homer Simpson's makeup gun in the back of my head "you've got it set on whore!"

While I prefer the former shot without the makeup. You've done an awesome job faking it. Well done. :D

I like both pics, but IMO, I would have used several different browns to match her eyes. I dont how you would do it in elements but in Gimp you can zoom in to her eyes and find several different colors of brown to use with the color picker. Then for the foundation you can use the smudge tool to make the skin look smoother.... Did you use the Elements eye shadow brush? If you dont have any, this sight has alot of make up brushes for Photoshop, Elements, and Gimp

Too much smoothing for my tastes. Looks like plastic.

Thanks for the tips & critiques. I actually prefer the no makeup look myselft, but it certainly doesn't hurt to expand the tool box. I will have to try out a few other techniques! :)

I prefer no make up picture. The make up version she looks like a clown. And the other edit version, that someone else did, too much smoothing. Looks a tad blurry to me.

Never be quick on a edit. Especially since it was just for an example on this forum. You could mention that you would like to edit the picture, so it may take a few mins, to show you what I am talking about.

Dude, people aren't going to take ages to edit something just to show an idea on a forum.
