What's going on with HDR today?

I belong to a few different photography forums, this is one of them.  In the last week I have seen 2 other threads on other forums talking about "why do people hate HDR".  In roughly those words.  Is there a new HDR product that has come out or something?  Why all of sudden on 2 completely different communities would there be discussions talking about why people hate HDR.

Kind of figured there must be a new product that people are digging or something.

HDR has everything to be hatable… the fans come
first in the list and the ETTR advocates in second.

At the beginning of DP, there was not really talks
about DR so ETTR was THEN a lesser evil; but, to
day, things are different: new technologies brought
new DR and the software to back the cumulative
progresses in that direction.

I always hated it — ever since I got hold of the D3S,

Light is free… capturing it is not!

As I see it, most see HDR as how people often present it.  Overcooked photos.  Because it's so easy to do.

The problem with HDR and has been a problem since HDR came out is people over due the processing and photos look over saturated, over vibrant and dynamic range just pushed too far.

With that said, done right, it can look incredible.

I don't think nothing new.  Either you love it or hate it.  Or just don't care about opinions.  What does it for me is when you see over saturated, and over stretched DR.
