Now in Lightroom...

I don't have Lightroom, but I am thinking about buying it.

I know when you open a picture, edit, save. Reopen, edit, save etc.. that the photo quality of the jpeg image will get lower.

Will this happen, if I were to edit a photo in lightroom and if I don't like how the edit comes out, I'll edit it again. Will I lose photo quality?

Not if you shoot in RAW. The way Lr works on a RAW file is it "appends" the edits to the original file. That way you can always go back steps or all the way back to the original.

Best to shoot RAW, edit and at the very end make a JPEG if needed.

HTH :)

My understanding is that Lightroom deals with jpg edits the same way it deals with RAW edits. It does not alter the original file. Edits are recorded as a set of instructions separate from the original file. These changes are applied to the preview image on the screen so you can see your changes, and a new image file with all the edits applied is created when you export your result, but the original image file is unchanged.

This is called non-destructive editing. Picasa does the same thing until you "Save". If you Save As tiff files, intermediate files will not lose quality, then Save As jpeg for your final print.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Do you know anything? or are you just faking it?
Amazing how you teach.

The same thing that happens to raw, happens to jpeg and any other file format.

Cod is correct. So no need for me to explain it.

It's not in everyone's best interest to shoot raw. Some people have no need to shoot raw. Some people rather not shoot raw. Some people do not want to get so involved with the whole processing of raw. So for some people, it's not best to shoot in raw.
