Dark thoughts

I was out taking some casual night shots and managed to capture a small meteor. I also took some where my paranoid neighbor's flood lights lit up the trees. Would prefer to light paint my own but what can you do.

Meteor is in center right area.

Just playing with exposures.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Aug 28th. Some of the last of the Perseids.Peaked around the 12th but the full moon hid the good show.
Next good show: October 21, 22 - Orionids Meteor Shower (20 per hour) to the east after midnight. Last quarter moon could hinder some views. Better one November 17, 18 - Leonids Meteor Shower with about 40 per hour and December 13, 14 - Geminids Meteor Shower.with about 60 multicolored per hour.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Your first image caught it well. I don't see traces in the others.

But, I can be wrong. ;)

BTW how did you light the trees in #2?

The meteor was only in the first. My paranoid neighbor has a couple of big "security lights" and the trees picked up those lights during the long exposure. Interesting effect but I like DARK nights for stars.
I just shot over the trees between and got backlighting on the trees.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

You mentioned... "December 13, 14 - Geminids Meteor Shower.with about 60 multicolored per hour."

Sounds like a contest/challenge in the making. Anyone interested in shooting meteors?

:judge:  :woohoo:

Thanks, Barry. Get to a place away from lights. Tripod. Open up your aperture and shoot for about 20-30 sec. The shots above were 25 sec, f/4 and ISO 1600.
This one from last year was 20 sec, f/1.8 and ISO 1600.

When Hunting meteors, just keep shooting. They show up expectantly.
Sounds like a good challenge, Charles. Hope for clear skies and not much moon.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Awesome It'd be fun to try shooting in "bulb" for about 5.5 minutes, f2.8, 200 ISO ... See what happens. :)

It is what it is.

The rest of us would have plenty of time to practice and December has cleaner skies for us generally. Maybe Alex could come up with a sponsor prize... (shameless hint alert)
