It's a fun lens and has great sharpness for being so inexpensive. I like using mine when I want really shallow DOF. Although the sweet spot (sharpest aperture) for that particular lens seems to be right around f/5. Take a few portraits at that aperture and I think you'll like the sharpness!

That first photo of the crystals - was it taken at a high ISO? This lens will allow you to shoot at much lower ISO and avoid the noise. Also, where was the wooden statue photo taken? The architecture reminds me of a place where I like to shoot.

I really like the crystal shot. New lenses are so much fun.

Interesting perspective of the wooden statue and the posts in the background.

The ISO on the first shot was 400. The second photo was taken at the Waterfront in Cape Town.

I am really struggling with crisp focus. Did a shoot today with the lens and so many of the shots are just off focus. I don't have auto focus and find that the manual focus takes sooo much time and just isn't coming to me. :-(

:judge:  I like both images. I agree that the sharp focus adds a lot to the shot and it don't come easy. :agree:

Especially a subject like the crystals. So many "facets" and surfaces to focus on. Move back a little to get more of the subject in focus and consider a tripod or monopod.
Love my 50 f/1.8.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
