what can I do with these to improve?

I like the overall result. But it still seems like they're missing something. Any CC on these would be great.

I like the angles of the shots, but the location of the train sucks, some things we can't control.

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

:judge: :judge: :judge: Good subject. I like #1 a little more because of the perspective.

Noce shots. I would like to see more "open space" on the right to give the train a "place to go". I often try not to get the "perfect crop" in the camera so I have a little "wiggle room" to improve the crop. Getting two shots of moving objects is tough so I choose to give it a bit more room. That also helps with being able to crop to 8x10 and 11x14.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

John, I'm loving the second shot. It would be even better if you can get rid of the branches ay the top of the frame and the pole though.

The first one I think is good. The 2nd on, the out of focus tree branches are distracting, if you can maybe clone them away.

These have good color and are nice sharp images, with an interesting perspective particularly in the second one I think. John (Baydream) pretty much hit the nail on the head as far as suggestions go, the composition is almost there I think.

I realized I must use a lot of what I learned in art courses without really thinking about it. We don't seem to really get into discussing on the board the specific elements of composition like line, shape, space, color and value, that apply across the board to drawing, painting, photography.

Some of the how-to's give techniques but don't always explain beyond that how to apply the concepts. You might be interested in composition as you seem to have a good eye for it, if you look up elements of composition related to art you'd probably find info. that could apply to composing and framing shots.

So correct, Sharon.

Here are a couple of articles on PT that might help. (Also check the links in them).

and this items of Composition in Art

These are things I learned while getting my degree in Graphic Arts many years ago and they still apply (and always will).
