The neighbours cat...

Well, first photo for crit on here

I've been playing with a camera since February last year and rather than shooting motorsport which was my original plan have eneded up shooting wildlife more than anything else. I had a play withthe neighbours cat and though I would post for some crit, be as harsh as you like :)

Thanks, not to many good ones of this cat, only one I'm really happy with although a tad on the soft side is:

I'm not great on PS but would love to sort the background out :( Was shot with a 50mm, OCF as the light was awful and god that cat can move!

Superb shot, the only improvement would be 'catchlights' in the eyes.Very nice.

Thanks robbie, I had to take them out  The photo was taken with OCF and an extension tube (can't remember what size but as the only flash I have is a 430EXII it was being handheld with a stofen and there was a big white rectangle in the eyes which looked extremely peculiar so and light that was in the eyes is now non existent, better of the two evils :(

If you get pinlights from a flash, you can remove them, or make them bigger and more natural looking. Look at models in magazines and how the different light modifiers create different shapes.

A few good shots is all most of us can ask for. These are very good. The same techniques won't work on motorsports ;) . Glad you are learning a variety of subjects. Well done.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

NissanMan ... I understand the problem that you had with the "steel eyes" due to flash. But keep in mind that with animal photography and especially with animals in the wild ... a photo without the catch light or eye glint is "lacking" Not my rules ... it just seems to be the accepted standard ... if the eyes aren't tack sharp and the light is not there ..... well you understand I am sure

Wow! Are you sure this is just a cat? it looks like an ocelot. Beautiful.
To tone down the background, you might try a blurring layer with a black mask, and then paint in the blurring with white and varying opacity brush strokes
