I've tried to get this building a few times but never really liked what I got. I like this one, so, I'd like all y'all's feedback on this one.

Very nice shot, lovely framing of the building and the streak of clouds break up the monotony of the sky.

Colors look a little flat...i dunno...it needs something.

K so...

This is why we all need photoshop.

Here's what I did:
1. Magic wand tool (you can use the pen tool if you know how) selected the sky only (with a feather of 1px or so.
2. Created New layer
3. Put a black to clear graduation on the sky (dark at the top). This should make the graduation on a separate layer. Don't worry if it looks too dark, we fix that in the next step.
4. Soft light overlay on the grad layer
5. Increased saturation and contrast (kept the green saturation lower than the rest).

Done.

Not too hard to do and makes it look a bit better. I think you need to look for more interesting subjects or angles though. :)

My Edit:

You can adjust saturation to your taste. For this sort of thing I like a nice bright slightly over the top color to come through, but that's just me. I don't like to overcook though (HDR sucks).

Thanks for your input guys and thanks for the PS tips and tweaks Ninja. definitely bumped it up over the top. I only have PSE8 and I'm still learning my way around it. But one of these days I'll have a copy of CS5 and I'll be starting my learning curve all over again. Thanks again.

It's a lot to take in, but you'll get the hang of it.

You can take a subscription out on photoshop CS5 now Don, paying monthly should make it more accessible, just go to the Adobe site, (no I aint on commission, should be tho).

I was going to agree with Scotty on it needs something when Adrian came up with the something, CS5 is so much fun.

I'll have to check into this David and see if I can fit it into my very tight current budget. Also, I knew that it needed something as well, but just could not quite get it all balanced out with PSE8. I tend to like my photos a bit saturated as well and just couldn't get it to pop without exploding, if ya know what I mean.... and that was as good as I could get it without just going into a nuclear melt down......
