From the back of a train

Just what the title says...shot this from the back of a moving train. I liked the way the dirt walkway at the left and the railroad tracks at the bottom right came together and disappeared around the bend. I think it would be a better perspective to capture while *not* being on a moving train ;)

As long as no one in uniform questioned you, you're good. :)

From the look of that track I bet that railroad is restricted to very low speeds.

Is this an excursion train? I have ridden many and photographed from the rear car in CO, PA, NH, ME, NC and other states. They are great fun to ride and photograph.
You caught this one at a great angle to capture the perspective. You are, of course, right about wishing you could get that lower angle but sometimes you have to take what is offered. Well done.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Kelly and BD, you hit the nail on the head. It's a very slow excursion train. The Fillmore & Western Railway. Their advertising leads one to expect much more than the experience they deliver.

The highlight of the excursion is a little gift shop. After that they drop you off for an hour and a half to make your way on foot through an area where you'd feel much safer driving a car and being able to get away quickly...

That sounds very much like my experience with an excursion train in southern Arizona :S

I've had pretty good luck with excursions like the Durango and Silverton RR in Colorado
www.durangotrain.com/ , the Great Smoky Mountain RR in North Carolina (the Fugitive move was filmed there) www.gsmr.com/ ,
and with trains in New Hampshire www.trainsnh.com/ and Maine www.maineeasternrailroad.com/ and brookspreservation.org/excursions.shtml .
Sorry you had a bad experience with this one.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
