The light was not good for the shot because the Lighthouses and Cross are located on an active military base (Fort Story) and camera angles and access times are restricted.

You can climb the old one. It is owned by the Preservation Society. The view from the top is amazing. This view of the lantern on the new one was taken from the top of the old.Alex wrote: Lighthouses are fun to photograph, are you able to go inside these?
An interesting feature of this light and the 1764 light at Sandy Hook, NJ is that, because of the British influence, the stairs spiral clockwise. Newer lights' stairs spiral the opposite direction (keep to the right)
